Corporate & Institutional Associate RM

What are some of your career highlights so far?
Whilst having been in banking for just less than 5 years and almost straight out of university, I am very thankful to have had the opportunity to have training, secondment, and permanent employment opportunities across a number of jurisdictions in Asia Pacific. This has allowed me to meet and work with individuals from different backgrounds and cultures, and it’s really been an enriching learning experience. However, I think my true career highs are the instances when we have been able to help the largest New Zealand organisations grow and expand their reach, scale, and services, locally or internationally—ultimately touching more lives—through the provision of financial solutions.

What do you like most about your job/industry?
I’d say it’s meeting clients and understanding businesses across a wide array of sectors. Just knowing that through working with customers, I am not only able to enhance my knowledge of their industry, but also, I am—in some way—able to help their organisation reach its full potential and bring their purpose to more people; it can be very fulfilling.

What are your interests outside work?
Beyond my core role, I lead internal events and initiatives as a member of our bank’s Diversity & Inclusion committee. Outside of work, traveling with friends and family is something I always look forward to. I am also a bit of a music nerd—I listen to several genres, enjoy live music, and follow the charts. As I am now done with the CFA exams, I am now learning how to play the ukulele! One thing not a lot of people know is I do a bit of emceeing too—it can be corporate activities, sports events, or sometimes, wedding receptions!

Make a prediction for 2023
With FinTech continuing to transform and develop, I believe that customers’ and employers’ expectations from finance and investment management professionals will also be evolving. As such, I expect that the industry will be placing greater emphasis in areas like behavioural finance, which whilst already modelled in some FinTech programmes, is not an exact science and thrives from a deep understanding of individual decision-makers.
Personally, I hope that by 2023, I will at least be a decent ukulele player—I’ll keep you posted!
