CFA Society New Zealand is led by a team of committed volunteer Directors who plan and implement the strategic vision for the society.  Most Directors oversee a portfolio.  Two part-time staff support the directors and the society.

The Board meet every two months to carry out governance, provide updates on their portfolios, and to plan and review initiatives.


Dr Jeffrey Stangl, CFA – Board Chair
Jeff is the Executive Director for Strategic Partnerships at Massey University Business School He holds degrees in Economics from the University of California and an MBA from The American Graduate School (Thunderbird). Jeff has a PhD from Massey University in investments. Jeff’s research passions lie with building financial capability and improving investor education.
Paul Richardson, CFA – Board Director
Paul is a Director of AgInvest Holdings, parent of MyFarm Investments.  He has over 27 years finance sector experience and was previously CIO with Mint Asset Management and Westpac /BT Funds, and in securities analysis with UBS in NZ, Australia and Asia. Paul is a member of the Advisory Board of Mindful Money, INFINZ, the NZ Institute of Directors, and was recently Chair of the NZ Corporate Governance Forum. Paul has a BSc in Geology from Auckland University.

Chelsea Leadbetter, CFA – Board Director

Chelsea is a Senior Equity Analyst at Forsyth Barr, with her current primary stock coverage including the Healthcare sector, Gaming sector and coverage within the Food, Beverage & Agriculture sector. She has a BCom and BSc from Victoria University, majoring in Finance and Psychology. She gained a Victoria Graduate Award and went on to complete her Honours degree in Finance. She is also a member of INFINZ.

Eric Wei, CFA – Board Director

Eric is the managing director at Fidelity Capital Partners, where he manages assets for large institutional clients and family offices. Eric has extensive finance sector experience with a successful track record in structuring and managing various cross-border investment products. He previously led the Wealth Management Asia/Global Markets division at Jarden. Prior to this Eric was the Head of Family Office at Bank of China (NZ) Limited. Eric has a Masters of Applied Finance degree from Victoria University.

Jim McElwain – Board Director

Jim is the Executive Director of the Institute of Finance Professionals NZ Inc. (INFINZ) of which he is a certified Member. He has had an extensive corporate finance career including in NZ, Australia and the UK, after commencing his career in the Treasury. Jim holds an Honours degree in Economics from Victoria University of Wellington and is a Chartered Member of the Institute of Directors in NZ. He is a member of the External Reporting Board Advisory Panel.

Christina Leung, CFA – Board Director
Christina is a Principal Economist at the New Zealand Institute of Economic Research, where she looks after NZIER’s economic forecasts and analysis of the NZIER Quarterly Survey of Business Opinion. In addition, Christina also undertakes analysis for a wide range of clients in assessing issues such as the economic impact of an industry or investment. Prior to working at NZIER, Christina worked at the Reserve Bank of New Zealand and ASB Bank. Christina holds a Bachelor of Commerce with first class honours in Economics from the University of Auckland.

Karen Chang – Board Director
Karen is the Head of Enforcement of the Financial Markets Authority (FMA). She is a former Crown Prosecutor and trial lawyer, who has conducted trials across a broad range of serious criminal and regulatory matters, including prosecutions on behalf of the FMA and the Serious Fraud Office. Qualified to practise law in New York, New South Wales, and New Zealand, Karen is also an experienced commercial litigator, who has represented clients in the banking and finance sector. Karen has Honours degrees in Law and in Commerce, majoring in accounting and finance, from the University of Auckland, and is a member of the Public Prosecutions Advisory Board.

David Kandziora, CFA – Board Director
David is a Senior Investment Consultant at Russell Investments. He is part of the team that delivers a range of services to assist institutional investors in meeting their goals, including investment strategy, governance advice and implementation services through Russell Investments’ Outsourced Chief Investment Officer solution. David has a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance) and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Auckland.
